Now, as Mario and Luigi say, “Let’s-a-go!”
ONE!
Let’s cite, first, Kamala Harris for both her plan to set price controls, and her lesser-discussed plan to hand out $25,000 each to politically "worthy" people so they can get houses. Not only is this socialistic welfare-mongering, and not only is it unconstitutional, she embraces the same obnoxious, cronyist, pie-in-the-sky rhetoric George W. Bush pushed in his era, that of the "home-ownership society." Coming on the heels of the Clinton Admin's push to have Janet Reno pressure banks to make them hand out home loans to people who were racially favored by the Admin, rather than necessarily viable recipients of home loans, the "Bush Push" for more homes also ran on the back of an artificially low Federal Reserve lending/interest rate. Many people got "variable rate" mortgages at near 0%, and the Fed pumped out the money, bidding up the prices of homes. But then, as always has to happen, people could no longer afford their mortgages, many saw their rates rise, and they defaulted on their loans. Banks holding these "toxic mortgages" shuffled them to federally-created and subsidized Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (thus seeing them getting BILLIONS in bailouts soon, thereafter). The prices for houses and the attended resources needed for them began to be understood as far too high compared to their actual value, and, in 2008, those mortgages became albatrosses, and the high-priced homes had to be liquidated, even as the feds bailed out banks and Fannie, etc. SO Kamala doesn't have any moral, constitutional, or economically-consequential ground to stand on. Here's the story re her price control and house-subsidy idea.
Harris to announce 4-year plan to lower housing costs | CNN Politics
Vice President Kamala Harris plans to announce what her campaign is describing as a four-year plan to lower housing costs, including $25,000 in down payment assistance for first time homeowners and actions aimed at spurring the construction of new housing, including tax incentives for building starter homes.

Both the Cobden Center and Mises have excellent pieces on her price control idea – which, ironically, she pushed about 53 years and a day after Nixon began pushing his wage and price controls and he "closed the gold window" in 1971.
Here's the Cobden Center on it (Cobden being an old hero for free trade in 19th Century England):
Here's Mises' Ryan McMaken on it:
Harris's advisors must know price controls drive up prices. They just don't care. Price controls are a political policy. They help politicians get elected.

And here is a good vid clip from economics writer and editor, Chris Rossini with Ron Paul.
BUT, key for me on this issue is to show that the bad ideas are not solely the province of Kamala Harris. Donald Trump not only wants to impose 10% tariffs on ALL imported goods and 60% tariffs on all Chinese imports, he recently claimed that higher gas prices are inflationary (wrong, they reflect the inflation of the money supply that has bid up prices), and he pushed pie-in-the-sky central planning projects, as well! He wants to federally fund the construction of CITIES, rockets, and more. This is a great opportunity to look beyond the parties and personalities and study the anti-constitutional, unethical, and anti-economic ideas of all central planners. Here's the Trump video. I've included Davd Stockman's comments on the X link, as well...
And the chance to see the wider picture makes it frustrating to see some conservatives only focus on Harris's spending ideas. Here's an example of good work that is only half-complete, IMO.
Study: Harris Economic Agenda Could Add $2T to Deficit
Vice President Kamala Harris is trying to convince voters her economic platform will be cutting costs for Americans, but a study released Friday revealed the Democrat presidential candidate's plan will increase the nation's deficit by $1.7 trillion over a decade.

Here's another big court case, and it's the dark side to the positive from above... Nothin' like private communication! Here's the link! The case revolves around whether or not the CA govt (or a subdivision thereof) can access personal communications hosted by "online providers" if the providers already have accessed the info for their own purposes to generate ad revenue. Not a good situation. Here's a quote from Reclaim The Net:
"Namely, the California Court of Appeal has found that if providers of that stored user data already have access to it, in order to monetize this content, then that content is effectively already disclosed and CSA has no business trying to protect it."

Supreme Court Blocks Biden’s Title IX Rules That Allowed Men In Women’s Sports
The Supreme Court, in a 5-4 opinion posted late Friday, has blocked the Biden Administration’s Title IX rules that would force schools that receive public funding to allow trans-identifying males into girls’ bathrooms, locker rooms, and sports. The rules went into effect on August 1 for all but 26 states plus hundreds of additional schools, ...
www.dailywire.com
But the decision did more than that. In dispute from the Bidenistas was the purportedly seperable nature of the "gender identity" portion of the Title Nine expansion from other portions that put at risk things such as due process protections for students who might be accused of sexual assault in govt-funded schools. This is a big decision, and it shoots down the entire Biden expansion, not just the portion supposedly "protecting" man who want to pretend to be women and enter women's bathrooms.

Amazingly, San Francisco used to be one of the areas of California that had private police forces, back in the 1800s. The city would be a lot safer if there were a private police and court system now, where residents could sign up and businesses would be incentivized to pay for good policing that allowed freedom and safety based on consumer interests. Instead, San Fran sees more and more businesses fleeing, even as the govt continues to make everyone pay for its malfunctioning so-called "justice" system. How is it just if people are forced to pay for it, from the outset?

Just for the clarity, the truth, of things, this is good to see from AZ. The AZ Supreme Court is allowing the term "unborn human being" on a ballot initiative pertaining to abortion. The battle focused on the pro-abortion side claiming that such a term was improper, and that "fetus" was better to use. Amazing that they understand so well that a fetus really IS an unborn human being, but they don't want the population to see that.

Incident to an arrest, how long can cops hold onto "seized" property? The US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia just ruled on that. But the ruling really hinges on the appeals court justices' determination of what is "reasonable" – as usual. So, that would allow other courts in the future to change the idea of "reasonable." Not a good bulwark against tyranny, there. Still, right now, this will change things until it is (possibly) heard at the Supreme Court level. Check it out, via Reason.
Police cannot seize property indefinitely after an arrest, federal court rules
