Here is an extension of a story we've been following at MRCTV for a number of years. When Trump reentered office, he reversed the Biden Admin closure of much of ANWR to oil and gas exploration, but, as I mentioned, even though I and many others might be pleased that such a move likely will make domestic oil/gas more plentiful, help decrease costs, and see wise infrastructure investments from the energy companies to sustain such higher capacity, it also leaves many taxpayers (especially Alaskans, who should be the ones who constitutionally handle that land) upset, because they want to see the land preserved. That Tragedy of the Commons is on display again here, as Trump's USDA orders logging in 120 million acres of federally-claimed Alaskan forest, ostensibly to reduce fire dangers. The problem with this is three-fold: 1. The forest is not supposed to be touched by anyone from DC. 2. The central planning for it never can reflect what real people desire or value, and 3. The central planning might be used to give favors to special interests. So this is a mixed bag of wood chips, unsalted, but it really offers a great chance for folks to lean about the constitutional and economic/ethical facets of the issue. LINK!
USDA Orders to Expand Logging in National Forests Under Emergency
The Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued a memo on Friday allowing the use of more than 112 million acres of national forests for logging to increase timber production and reduce wildfire risk. In the memo dated April 3, USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins declared these forests—making up 59 percent of national forests—to be in an emergency […]

Tariffs Could Cause Inflation to Persist, Weigh on US Growth, Says Fed Chair Powell - NTD News
President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs could lead to persistent inflation and slower economic growth, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said on April 4. The White House recently unveiled its sweeping trade agenda, revealing 10 percent baseline universal tariffs and higher reciprocal levies on advanced and developing economies. The central bank chief said that the U.S. […]

Here is an excellent presentation from The Tax Foundation about how damaging tariffs are, and how much worse Trump's are... LINK!
And here, the Tax Foundation offers a key timeline of the tariff explosions and more. It's important to remember that the Constitution puts the tariff power in the hands of Congress, and Congress is strictly prohibited from handing any power to any other branch. Additionally, the Constitution mandates that all revenue-generating bills must originate in the House. LINK!
And as the Trump Admin does this, they want the Fed to pursue a low-rate, ACTUALLY INFLATING, monetary policy. That will give a momentary cushion to this, but it will be a facade and lead to long-term disaster... LINK!
President Donald Trump said on Friday that it would be the "perfect" time for Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell to cut the interest rates while Powell said that the tariffs imposed by Trump this week will raise inflation. Trump posted on Truth Social, "This would be a PERFECT time for Fed Chairman Jerome Powell to cut Interest Rates. He is always 'late,' but he could now change his image ...

Here is Peter Schiff on how the so-called "trade deficit" actually is a balance of trade, which is only logical, since individuals engage in trades, and trades, by definition, are voluntary, without "deficits" for the parties involved. Additionally, the "trade deficit" the politicians and pop media measure is the "goods and services" measurement, and if our monetary unit is relatively stronger compared to that of another nation, it only makes sense that Americans would buy more of that foreign nation's output. The dollars sent there then return to the US as investment, which is GOOD, and represents the SURPLUS that the pop media folks will not mention. That liquidity is a good thing, but the feds screw things up domestically because they spend and borrow so much that foreigners are incentivized to by US bonds rather than invest in US companies. Additionally, that capital would more often go into US companies and US companies would be more competitive if the government did the only thing that is needed regarding the government relationship with domestic companies: stop regulating and taxing them so much. The harm done to US productivity drives US companies to move away to places where the costs of factors of production are less. These tariffs will increase costs for all consumers, from the end consumer at the store to US manufacturers who need foreign products to make their own domestic products. That loss of money going to the federal tariff tax means consumers will have to work harder to get what they want and they will have less left over to spend on NEW US companies and jobs. Trump's ideas are some of the worst in US history. They run counter to the very idea of division of labor and trade based on relative subjective advantage and valuation.
Here is Schiff, who, like yours truly, tried to warn people about the coming 2008 collapse. LINK!

This is interesting. According to the US Constitution, states CAN impose tariffs, but they have to get Congressional approval. But the COLLECTION of tariffs by the feds, as imposed on any port inside a state? That's kind of an opaque area of the Constitution. And how Newsom might really act on this is a mystery. His state is deep in the red, so he can't think he'll have an easy time subsidizing purchases of foreign goods. It's going to be interesting seeing what they do here. LINK!
