If a hospital takes state funds, how does one assess the state government then demanding that the hospital function in ways that the state approves? This becomes very unmanageable, and is a standing portrait of the problem of the commons. The Texas State Constitution is supposed to protect the right to freedom of speech, which would prohibit compelled speech, but what of a provision in state statute that OFFERS money to institutions that comply with certain speech demands, demands of private information? The recent answers have been based on the concept of "Unconstitutional Conditions" which has been a political hot potato that the SCOTUS has handled through the application of different standards, and it looks like the closest analogue to this would be the Crabrini Green SCOTUS decision that saw the court tell that public housing complex outside Chicago that even though it was a Section Eight federal housing system, the state and the feds could not demand that people give up their right against unwarranted searches for drugs. This seems similar, IMO... LINK!

I'm curious. How can a man who already pledged to "protect and defend" his US Constitution say that he will use an "Executive Order" to impose more insane tariffs? Perhaps Donald Trump could shave off some time from watching fighting matches to address this glaring conflict between his oath and his plans. I doubt he ever will... I also wonder if many folks who claim they are "conservatives" will cite him for this or if members of Congress will call for him to be impeached because of it. This is not a small matter, but it will see very little attention put on the fundamentals. LINK!

Trudeau possibly kneeling to Lord Trump is not important to me, but I suppose some folks will be amused by his hopping to FLA to meet w Trump and see Trump as "strong" because of it.
This is more important, IMO, and it runs hand-in-hand with any discussion of tariffs. Whether Trump creates carve-outs for the energy sectors or he does not, the principle is the same for all goods: Tariffs make them more difficult for consumers to buy. LINK!

Perhaps any one of these three SCOTUS cases could be interesting for its own sake, as its own article! In the first case, I'm sure the SCOTUS will not question the validity of the FDA or of Congress passing statutes that claim a power over whether people can sell VAPING products, regardless of their rationales. The details of the immediate debate on the FDA move thus become irrelevant, but that is where the disputants will debate before the Justices. In the second case, the course of the stolen money (you'll see in the linked article on the Hungarian case) is compelling, and can open up a big logical-philosophical debate about culpability and who pays for crimes committed by state-tied figures. The third is a biggie, from TN, about the state not paying for "under-age-trans" "medical treatment" - a lot of loaded and shaped rhetoric there. Shaped like a middle finger directed at taxpayers, much like the reshaping of the actual EQUAL PROTECTION clause of the 14th Amendment, which is supposed to be about protection against person-v-person attack, not natural phenomena.
Even NewsMax misses the point of that. Here's a quote:
"On Wednesday, the justices will hear oral arguments on a case (U.S. v. Skrmetti) involving a Tennessee law that prohibits all medical treatments for transgender youth, and whether it violates the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment.
An American Civil Liberties Union of Tennessee spokesperson told the Examiner the case is about "fundamental freedom to access vital, lifesaving healthcare." But supporters of the law insist the ban is not discriminatory."
There is absolutely nothing in the US Constitution that gives the feds a positive "power" to intercede here. Equal "protection" is not about the government apparatchiks calculating "equal handouts" of medical help, regardless of the political ramifications of the medical "help." LINK!

Grand Canyon University recently made the news when it won an appeal against a Biden Dept of Ed attack. Now, this study shows something more widespread. Rumble is suing the government of California over attacks on freedom of speech, which is supposed to be protected against California attack by the CA Constitution (as with cases like this, the US Constitution's prohibition against Congress abridging the freedom of speech is a misdirection from what the Founders intended, which was to allow states to control that, and thus the focus should be on the CA Constitution, but it won't be the focus in the courts). Lindsay cares not a whit about the destruction, the perversion of the word "defense" to keep making up excuses to go on the offense, the anti-constitutional nature of his beloved Ukraine-backing, and the indefensible expansion of NATO. He's said many obnoxious things about this US-NATO proxy war, including that it was the best "bang for our buck" seeing Ukrainians getting killed for what he seems to think are "US interests" - whatever that collectivist canard is this week - but this is one of the ugliest and deserves widespread opprobrium. This is a perfect example of the fact that many in the GOP are perfectly willing to allow clear violations of the US Constitution to continue, and then they are willing to use that graft to leverage speech codes or leverage policies at the schools to enforce a certain international and ideological agenda. US-Israeli-Turkish-backed “rebels” in Syria have seized the city of Aleppo. The US occupies one-third of Syria and hands out monetary gimmies to radical groups they can use to try to topple Assad.
