Biden Grad Speech Claim: This Is The Most Tolerant, Best-Educated Generation This Nation's Ever Known...
Stated without a hint of irony or humor. But, what's funny about lies supporting fascism?
In typically hyperbolic, and mostly unsupportable, remarks at the University of Delaware Saturday, US President Joe Biden evidently found it impossible to shift out of Pander Mode and offer anything remotely like truth…
In part, he told the graduates:
“Your generation is the most generous, the most tolerant, the least prejudiced, the best-educated generation this nation has ever known and that's a simple fact.”
Is it?
When it comes to generosity, a cursory glance at politicized half-truths would indicate that Amtrak Joe is right… It almost looks as if this man — who seems to think it’s “charitable” for government to take your neighbor’s money and hand it to others (for everything from funneling weapons to Ukraine, to funding abortions, to subsidizing PBS propaganda, to mishandling “federal lands” that the feds aren’t supposed to own, and on and on) — is “correct” about his claim about “generosity.”
After all, data offered by Blackbaud, which, for a decade, has been seen by numerous pop media outlets as one of the major US measurers of philanthropic giving, claims that 2021 charitable donations within its US metric universe increased 9 percent over 2020. The trouble is that this number is aggregate spending and not weighed either per capita (the population grew .58 percent from 2020 to 2021, and thus far, has grown .57 percent over 2021) or adjusted to see it in light of “measured need.”
To put this in context, it’s possible to claim a population — say, in a town, or state — has decreased its charitable giving during any given period, but if the relative number of people in need decreased, and employment and living standards increased because the money that might have been donated was put to other productive uses, then how does one determine whether donors intended to be “skimpy” or they just behaved in accordance with need trends as they subjectively measured them?
In that light, we see that Biden’s claim, though seemingly backed up by aggregate charitable spending that doesn’t factor population growth, also does not factor the population’s increase in poverty — which was 11.4 percent for 2020 and rose to 13.4 percent in 2021. That’s a nearly 9 percent increase, making Biden’s claim a lot less potent than his hot delivery style (the first hyperlink in this post has the embedded fun of video-Joe to enjoy) might imply.
A few other factors to consider before one moves on are issues such as the tax code and how politicians might manipulate it each year, thus driving people towards or away from charitable giving, and the fact that periods of low unemployment, increasing productivity, and increasing wages, tend to see higher aggregate and per-capita charitable donation.
But perhaps the most stunning bald-faced whoppers in Joe’s verbal arsenal come in his claims that “this generation” is the “most tolerant” and “best educated.”
These are not quantifiable, but one can come to some educated guesses.
First, let’s consider “most tolerant.” Biden is talking directly to one of the big components of cancel culture. Many college students for many years not only have exhibited the typical leftist gaslighting mentality of excoriating their opponents as being “anti-speech” even as they vociferously shut down dissent, let alone debate, they have engaged in violent attacks against those with whom they disagree or in violence directed at the organizers or institutions in which the “conservatives” might speak. Thus we’ve seen people like Alison Stanger, Charles Murray, and Christina Hoff Sommers either directly attacked or indirectly attacked via vandalism and threats to buildings. We’ve seen AntiFa employ fascist tactics to physically attack conservative reporter Andy Ngo to the extent that he suffered a concussion, and we’ve seen leftist university administrations literally sanction professors for trying to speak freely and properly use pronouns.
This doesn’t even bring into the story people who might ally themselves with college-age leftists, but who aren’t in college — folks like, oh, the man charged with attempting to murder Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
Then there’s Biden, himself, and we can add plenty of Dems and GOP-ers on every level to that group… If tolerance is to be defined by jab mandates and lockdowns and fines and tax-thievery and redistribution and warmongering and false claims of “domestic terror threats” targeting concerned parents at local school board meetings, then perhaps Mr. Biden knows a thing or two about his brand of “tolerance.”
But I doubt many of us consider that to be toleration of very much other than his own hubris and arrogant usurpation of our rights to be free and live in bloody peace.
And what of Biden’s claims of “best educated”?
Well, in 2019, stats released by the National Assessment of Educational Progress indicated what we’ve known for a long time: government schools are harming literacy.
As Raymond Arroyo noted for FoxNews at the time:
“Sixty-four percent of all eighth-grade students are unable to read proficiently, according to the National Assessment of Education Progress’ latest report. Eighty-two percent of black students and 77 percent of Hispanic students are not reading proficiently.”
Marcrotrends reports that from 1990 to 2019, there was no measurable increase in literacy for the US population, overall (leftist ThinkImpact low-balls that at 21 percent). And, as lockdowns saw kids shoved onto sketchy web-based “learning” systems, the situation only has grown worse.
Notes the World Literacy Foundation:
"We are now witnessing a rapid downward spiral in literacy standards and sadly many children will not return to their education and will face lifelong poverty.”
But Biden offered his fact-lacking claims with such fists-pounding ferocity, surely the graduates suffering through his lecture nodded in agreement.
If they didn’t, they should be silenced, have their YouTube channels canceled, be taken off Twitter like Gina Carano (who merely brought up the fact that censorship was the purview of fascists, like the Nazis) and put on things like Google’s blacklist, as my own work for MRCTV was, because it was too libertarian-anarchist in nature.
It’s reassuring to know we’ve been so wrong about the collegiate collectivist set. Joe’s set us straight.
And everyone knows, Joe knows better than we do…
